Universiti Teknologi MARA
20 years of experience
Dr. Baljit Singh a/l Bhathal Singh is an Associate Professor at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), with extensive hands-on experience in specialized equipment across industrial and scientific domains, particularly in thermal systems and renewable energy technologies. He has been actively involved in the installation, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of equipment such as heat pipes, thermosyphons, thermoelectric generators (TEGs), and hybrid systems incorporating phase-change materials (PCM) and nanofluids. His technical expertise extends to the design and experimental validation of thermal energy recovery systems, including flat-plate solar collectors, exhaust-heat recovery modules, salinity-gradient solar ponds, and cooling strategies for electronics and fuel cells. These systems often require detailed performance calibration using sensors, flow control devices, and customized data acquisition setups. Dr. Baljit has also led various research projects focusing on integrating low-grade heat sources with TEGs, supported by computational modeling using ANSYS Fluent and MATLAB for simulation and system diagnostics.
In addition to research and equipment handling, Dr. Baljit plays a key role in training undergraduate and postgraduate students in laboratory-based thermal-fluid experiments, renewable energy systems, and computational methods. He has developed comprehensive lab manuals and course modules for subjects such as Heat Transfer, Thermodynamics, and Renewable Energy Systems, emphasizing safety, measurement accuracy, and operational troubleshooting. As a Professional Engineer (Ir.) registered in Malaysia and certified trainer in higher education, he has conducted numerous workshops and technical sessions for students and staff on system setup, equipment maintenance, and simulation-based validation. His contributions also include mentoring student teams for innovation competitions involving prototype design and system testing. With over 60 research publications and active involvement in grant-funded projects, Dr. Baljit has established a reputation for combining theoretical knowledge with practical engineering application, ensuring systems not only work in laboratory conditions but are optimized for real-world deployment.
