Dr. Muhammad Rizwan Alam is a Cell Biologist with a passion of exploring the intricate biology of mitochondria in different cell types and diseases. He completed his PhD in Molecular Medicine from Medical University of Graz, Austria and a Post-Doctoral Fellowship from Civil Hospital of Lyon, France. Dr. Rizwan is an alumnus of Quaid-i-Azam Univeristy Islamabad, PMAS University of Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi and National Institute of Health Islamabad, where he completed his MPhil, MSc and BSc.MLT respectively. With lots of working experience in clinical diagnostics, he is currently serving as an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad. His research team is primarily involved in demystifying the contribution of mitochondria in human health and diseases with a particular emphasis on the:
(1) Participation of mitochondrial calcium homeostasis in platelet and neutrophil physiology
(2) Elucidation of predictive and prognostic biomarkers for cardiovascular, neurological, and psychological disorders,
(3) Targeting/using mitochondria as a therapeutic strategy for attenuating cardiovascular disorders
(4) Investigation of Mitochondria-ER Contact Sites in T-cell biology during ageing and chronic infections.
