Dr. Shahzad Akbar Khan, Dean Faculty of Veterinary and Animal
Scieces, University of Poonch Rawalakot was born on 01st November, 1978,
in Muzaffarabad. He got his primary education from the village school and secondary education from
Government High School Katkair, Muzaffarabad. He always got distinctions
in school education. He preferred Veterinary Education over all other fields and got admission in Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam for DVM degree program in 2000. He passed DVM degree with first class first position (Distinction) in 2004. Soon, he was appointed as a Lecturer in the university. He did his Masters in Veterinary Microbiology from the same university with first class first position in 2007. He joined University of Azad Jammu & Kasmir Muzaffarabad in 2007 as a lecturer.He got Scholarship from TWAS-CNPq for Ph.D studies in 2013 in Brazil and completed Ph.D from state University of Londrina Brazil with in two years in 2015.
He has received Best University Teacher Award from University of Azad KJammu & Kashmir in the year-2009.
In 2017 he promoted to Assistant Professor in Pathology at University of Poonch Rawalakot. He got PhD in Pathology. In 2021 he promoted to Associated Professor Pathology at University of Poonch Rawalakot.
He has completed his two Post-Docs from University of Chinese Academy of Sciences-China in the year 2020 and 2024 respectively and got distinguished achievement award from president of Chinese Academy of Sciences-China.
He has published 80 research papers with a cumulative impact factor of (201). He patented four patents at NIH-USA for BCG vaccine Development in adults in 2020. His specialization has remained in the field of tuberculosis vaccines development.
Due to his excellent academic and research performances, he has been awarded by the President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan with the awards of Pride of performance (Izaz-i-Sabqat), Presidential Gold Medal, and by the Governor Sindh with Chancellor’s Gold Medal.

He has won many grants for research i.e; from National Natural Sciences Foundation of China, Brazilian Council for scientific and Technological Development, Pakistan Science Foundation, Health Security Partners, USA and Directorate of Advanced Studies and Research, UAJK Muzaffarabad.

He served in various capacities in University of Poonch Rawalakot as a Chairman/HoD of the Department of Pathobiology twice, Director ORIC, University of Poonch Rawalakot twice from 2018-2023.
He has won travel grants from many countries and presented his research in 8 different countries of the world. He has won best presenter’s award in a multidisciplinary Science Conference from Sri-Lanka & Egypt.
Dr. Shahzad is a a member of Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council, Life member of World Poultry Science Association, Life member of Pakistan Biological Safety Association, member of American Association for Science & Technology, member of Amrican Society for Microbiology, Life member of Pakistan Society for Microbiology

He has also got experience of more than 21 years. In service experience with 18 years academic/ teaching experience in University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir Muzaffarabad, University of Poonch Rawalakot, Gomal University Dera Ismail Khan, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences-China and 02 years experience in private sector and NGO,s.He is a Review Member of Pakistan Science Foundation Islamabad, Pakistan Agriculture Research Council, Punjab Agriculture Research Board and Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.
