Dr. Irwan Mohammad Ali

About

Associate Professor Sr Dr. Irwan Mohammad Ali is a qualified and registered building surveyor with over
15 years of experience spanning consultancy, project management, building inspection, and facilities
management. He is currently a faculty member at the Faculty of Built Environment, Universiti Teknologi
MARA (UiTM), Perak Branch.
He has been actively involved in a wide range of public and private sector projects, particularly in the areas
of building condition assessment, forensic investigation, maintenance planning, and sustainable facilities
development. Throughout his career, Dr. Irwan has contributed to the strategic development and auditing
of built environment assets, particularly for higher education institutions and government agencies. His
core expertise includes building diagnostics, defect analysis, dilapidation surveys, and asset performance
evaluation, applying practical and data-driven approaches to enhance building lifecycle outcomes.
He has led and participated in numerous research and consultancy projects, including:
- Sustainable Destination Facilities Model (SDFM) for Muslim-Friendly Tourism in Malaysia
- Kajian Indeks Keselamatan Kebangsaan (IKSN)
- Knowledge Sharing in PFI-Based Facilities Management for Higher Learning Institutions
Currently, he is involved in projects related to digital infrastructure assessment, integrity index
development, and the formulation of affordable housing models based on end-user needs in Selangor.
In addition to his professional practice, Dr. Irwan actively contributes as an academic, helping to train the
next generation of building surveyors and built environment professionals. He has taught technical
subjects at leading institutions such as USM, UTP, WOU, and OUM, and has delivered professional lectures
at international universities in Indonesia and Bangladesh. He has successfully supervised four Ph.D.
students to completion, with seven more currently in progress, all focusing on practical, real-world
challenges in the built environment.
His strong industry background, coupled with academic rigor, positions him as a thought leader bridging
professional practice and applied research in the field of building surveying and facilities management.
