Prof. Dr. Tanveer Hussain, an accomplished academic and researcher in forestry and medicinal plant sciences, brings over two decades of hands-on experience in the installation, troubleshooting, and training of specialized equipment and methodologies used in the scientific and environmental sectors. With a PhD in Forestry from the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, his research has primarily focused on biodiversity conservation, agroforestry, and the sustainable use of medicinal plants, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions such as the Cholistan Desert.
He has served in multiple leadership roles, including Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment, Director Cholistan Institute of Desert studies, at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, and has overseen large-scale national and international projects totaling over Rs. 100 million. Notably, he led a Punjab Agricultural Research Board (PARB) project focused on the germplasm collection and characterization of indigenous forest and medicinal plants. His expertise includes deploying and maintaining equipment for phytochemical analysis, tissue culture, and biodiversity monitoring.
Dr. Hussain has authored and edited several technical manuals and textbooks, including chapters on forest ecology and medicinal plant pharmacology. He is also actively involved in capacity building, having trained numerous postgraduate students and junior researchers in laboratory protocols and field-based data collection techniques. He has supervised over 120 BS, M.Phil., and PhD students and regularly delivers training programs on biodiversity assessment and plant-based therapeutic studies.
Certified through leadership and governance programs with Edinburgh Napier University and the British Council/NAHE, Dr. Hussain blends academic excellence with administrative leadership. His work not only advances scientific understanding but also supports sustainable livelihoods and environmental resilience in vulnerable ecosystems.
