About

Professor Ir. Dr. Mohd Khairuddin Md Arshad obtained his Dip. Eng. and B.Eng. degrees from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in 1997 and 1999, respectively. He earned an M.Sc. from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2005, receiving the Best Thesis Award, and later completed his Ph.D. (Docteur en Sciences de l’Ingénieur) from Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL), Belgium in 2013. He was a recipient of multiple scholarships, including MARA, Hewlett-Packard (HP), and Skim Latihan Akademik IPTA.

He is currently a Professor at the Faculty of Electronic Engineering & Technology (FKTEN) and a Research Fellow at the Institute of Nano Electronic Engineering (INEE), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP). His previous academic management roles include Director and Dean of the Centre for Graduate Studies and Deputy Director at INEE. He was instrumental in establishing and accrediting UniMAP's diploma programs as the first university-wide Diploma Coordinator.

Prior to joining academia, he worked in industry with Hewlett-Packard and Agilent Technologies, contributing to the development of the first optical sensors used in Logitech’s optical mouse, and at ON Semiconductor in flip-chip packaging development.

His research focuses on transistor device technology, biosensors, and advanced materials. He has secured over RM2.6 million in research grants, including national grants, NGO funding (MAKNA), and international grants (Royal Society-Newton, PHC-Hibiscus, and China's OBOR program). He led three consultation projects with Infineon Technologies on SOI power MOSFETs (RM152k).

He has published 106 Web of Science-indexed papers (45% in Q1 journals), with an accumulated impact factor of 420, and holds an H-index of 36 (Scopus). His research productivity spans his postgraduate years, publishing 3 IF papers (IF = 2.313) during MSc and 9 IF papers (IF = 19.676) during PhD.

He has supervised 2 postdocs and 25 postgraduates (12 as main supervisor, including 5 PhDs), and serves as grant evaluator for international (Khalifa University), national (HiCOE, KKP, YUTP), and university-level funding bodies. He also sits on the HiCOE Jawatankuasa Induk (2023–2026).

Prof. Khairuddin has held Visiting Professor appointments in China, Indonesia, and Malaysia, including Shandong University, ITS Surabaya, MSU, and Universitas Pramita. He is an External Examiner for programs at MSU and UTeM and has assessed 14 postgraduate theses.

As a Professional Engineer (BEM) and Corporate Member of IEM, he has been actively involved in accreditation panels (EAC, ETAC, MQA), evaluating 19 undergraduate and 1 postgraduate programs. He has also contributed as a journal reviewer (Elsevier, IEEE, ACS, RSC), associate editor for IJNEAM (Scopus and WoS-indexed), and book proposal reviewer.
He is a Senior Member of IEEE, founding Chair and advisor of the IEEE Malaysia Sensors & Nanotechnology Chapter, and committee member for multiple IEEE conferences and societies. He has delivered four keynotes and eight invited talks at international conferences.
